On Sunday April 15th  the Chamber of Commerce of the Nyacks will sponsor Springfest and Street Fair 2012 in Nyack, NY. Last year, I photographed the Vintage Car Store  of  Nyack  while I was there. I was disappointed to learn that they had sold the Purple 1983 Porsche 911 SC I had my eye on, but their inventory of way cool cars is always flowing, so I know some day my Porsche will come in.

Log Cabin ~ Grand View on Hudson, NY :: click to spin

I came across these 360VR panos while looking through my April photo archive. I made these a few years ago when I had a chance to photograph one of the “Gems on the Hudson” properties while doing a client consultation for photo coaching at her listing. I made some available light 360 panoramas for her while I was there.

This authentic log cabin and the mountain side property it is nestled on, are rich in history dating back to 1854 when John B. Blauvelt owned the land.

Terry Talley, former mayor of Grand View on Hudson, NY, details the history of this unique home in her book “Gems on the Hudson – The Grand Views”, an excerpt of which is at the end of this blog entry. The 360 above is of the 4 season sun room which faces the Hudson River to the east.

Excerpt: In 1854 John B. Blauvelt owned 15 acres of land here. In 1865 he sold it to General Daniel Ullman who “struck a fatal blow at slavery” during the Civil War.  Ullman had a man named James Brown build a road zig-zagging all the way up to the top of his property. This house sits on that road.

General Ullman sold his own house and land up to the railroad. He willed the property above to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.  When he died, the charity didn’t waste time.  It sold the land above the railroad, and this log house was built almost immediately. The house got electricity in 1906. During a recent renovation, wiring dating back to 1906 was found. Gradually, over the years, it got heating and insulation. Dr. John Davis bought the log house about 1980. He bought it from the second owner. By that time, the porch on the river side had been enclosed, so John put windows all the way around it…
